Interview 6 | grithludwig

One of my favourite contemporary artists is GRITH LUDWIG: a Danish-born contemporary artist who has lived, worked and painted all over the world. She currently calls Cuernavaca, Mexico home and has for several years. In addition to being an extraordinary human and amazing artist, Grith is also a good friend whose wild enthusiastic embrace of life infected & influenced me at a young age.

I had the great fortune to meet Ms. Ludwig as a young man starting out his life here in Toronto a number of decades ago. Her wild artistic spirit and joie de vivre were too much for her to stay chained to the small, provincial burb that Toronto was those many years ago. And, after a tempestuous, multi-year stay here in the burgeoning, wanna-be metropolis of Toronto, Ms. Ludwig returned to Europe and to the artistic, gypsy-like life she thrived within until settling into Mexico City in recent years.

Bold colours and frenetic brush strokes have been a long-time signature of Ms. Ludwig's work and remain so. Her technique has matured into a deep colour-field of organic passion exploding or erupting on and consuming every canvas she touches. Although undeniably powerful & evocative images in and of themselves, Grith Ludwig's painting can only be truly appreciated in person. These powerful canvases provoke a tumultuous sea of raw emotion, lust, love and passion.

Ms. Ludwig continues to push the boundaries of her soul and artwork. A force to be reckoned with, Grith's artwork defies easy labelling and art-world definitions...much like her life itself.
