How do you define art?

That's a good question. It's many things all together.
For me it's my whole life. I am very connected with art in every way possible, at all times. I also work with my subconscious where I reach abstract unknown forms and surreal gems that come through me. Very spiritual and deep. I actually get myself into a trance before I "attack" the canvas. You could say I tau
ght myself to work with the universe.
My work is similar to music and poetry, it's very lyrical...you have to feel it...words are not as necessary.

To define Art today I find difficult at times. A massive amount of so-called Art is less than serious in these days of social media unfortunately and it’s not actual artwork at all.

What does painting represent to you?

I did classical Art before my Art education. I then spent several years being educated in Art school in all the Fine Art categories and worked as a professional Artist in different art mediums. Later I became a Graphic Designer and Art director.

I then needed to get deeper and feel my soul. Abstract expressionism suited my temperament very well...I started in that direction decades ago and it is never-ending for me. It's important to be very good at classical Artwork to start with (I also taught classical fine art).
Before you attempt to paint Abstract expressionism, look at Miro and Picasso. They also did super realism first… Most people don't know that at all.

At what point in your life did you realise that you wanted to dedicate yourself to art?

When I was 13 years old I was considered a prodigy...already drawing super realistic portraits. At 15 I began art school in Copenhagen. At 20 I was accepted into a Top Art school in Toronto Canada where I graduated with Honors.
Fine Art was my major and I was very happy to learn so many different art mediums like: Still life, Sculpture, Life drawing, Life painting, Design, Museum, Illustration, Painting, Photography, Graphic Design, and more.

How do you think your life experiences and personality are reflected in your paintings?

They are very well reflected…especially from living around the world my whole life (settling in other countries and working there).

Painting in other cultures is both heavenly and difficult at times and comes right through me in my Artwork. It's fascinating...

Mexico is my absolute favorite because I always feel the energy of spirituality and it makes me very happy. It's my second home. I am a passionate visionary artist and my work has been called dynamic and powerful among other things. The positive fire of energy inside of me comes out in my work but it shows itself in many different mysterious ways.

A musician at one of my exhibitions in Toronto said: I don't understand it but I know how to play it. That's the greatest way to explain it that I can possibly think of because he does not have to understand it...but he certainly knew how to feel it.

My family were also prodigies but in music so it's all in my genes. I am at least 30 years ahead of my time… both in my life and my work. That is not by choice…that's also in my genes.

In addition to taking art and painting classes, you also learned on your own. In this self-learning process, what were the main strengths you discovered and what elements did formal classes not provide you with?

I was a prodigy to begin with, then learned going to Art school (in addition to learning Graphic Design and working as an Art director in an advertising Agency afterwards).
You have to keep that up your whole life if you want to be as good as possible. I think the main strength is that you have a talent in Art already to begin with…and you have to develop that strength all your life. Your Artwork begins for real once you learn/find your own style, your original work as an Artist. Some people can't reach that far... It's a lifetime of work... It's a huge process, and I love that once you reach this stage of painting it’s never-ending. Certainly after Art school and classes, you are on your own.

What has been the most satisfying moment in your artistic career so far?

Good question...Well there are many fabulous moments really… Showing in Art galleries is exciting. I think the whole process of getting ahead in my career is both exciting and at times very hard. The Art business side can be a big issue.

You have had the opportunity to present yourself in different exhibitions and galleries, how would you describe that moment in which your art is exposed to the gaze and feeling of the rest of the people?

Wonderful... exciting. Seeing people's excitement after a long time of hard work for an exhibition... it's interesting to hear and see how people's view of your work is, and other things can come of it...like getting published, new exhibitions, more collectors, sometimes new friends. And surprises of different kinds.

What inspires you when painting?

My inspirations are wide and deep. Living and travelling around the world makes it even more exciting and the inspiration can be as simple as anything in nature. To reach deep inside yourself to bring out what you observed. I don't have to wait to be inspired, it's in there waiting to come out. I have noticed it has helped me to be a romantic at heart. It's not only directly on the canvas where you have to be inspired and work... It's a way of thinking away from the canvas too. You have to learn when to walk away from the canvas on and off... It's a huge process all together. It's all the time.

Finally, what do you enjoy most about creating art?

It allows me to use and feel all my emotions and go deep inside…mostly it makes me very happy. I am always very observant. It's in my blood. I love the whole process of making, creating a piece of work and I know how to get in touch with it. Live it. Each piece has a life of its own that I love working with.
